Trying to go to Pinal Mountains from my house is difficult at best. I have a choice, go out of my way and go through traffic. The longer way is to head North and come back down 288 past Roosevelt Lake with no traffic or traffic light??? No traffic sounded better.
Here is the bridge at Roosevelt lake.
When we got to Pinal Mountain we headed up with the truck. We found several spots to park along the road but were unable to find a spot wide enough to turn around. When we got to Sulfide Del Ray Picnic area I stopped outside on the road and walked in. At the entrance a guy was camping. I asked him if there was a turn around. He said “yes” “but I can’t come in with my ATV’s on the trailer”, “NO ATV’s !”. As you can guess in my normal, congenial, polite manner I explained "IT" to him. We pulled through and turned around. I normally would have parked here but I think he was already on the cell phone.
Funny the place was empty ? Why did he camp at the entrance? By the main road? It isn’t like this dick has any friends that he is waiting for. Jackass of the week award goes to this bald prick. Maybe he isn’t bald, it’s a giant prophylactic on his head .
We found a fine parking spot to unload. The roads have several really good sections of heavy growth.
If you pay attention, over the edge of the road several caves and/or mines can be seen.
As with most mountains in Arizona, when you get on the sunny side the trees go away but the view was great.
Great side roads! This one was actually blocked. We spent a few minutes with a 4X4 truck pulling a downed tree off the road. I guess we are the only ones in here ! LOL
Very confusing ? We seen signs that said OHV Recreation Area and then the sign went on to say NO, NO, NO, NO . Many of the places you would stop for lunch or to use the facilities were off limits? We found no parking for anyone with any kind of a trailer and almost no place to turn around with even a short trailer. In general Pinal Mountains are not ATV friendly.
No matter what, if you have an ATV you can find a place to eat. This spot was cool at 7500ft with a breeze.
Great view and great roads, still pretty good for an area that doesn’t appear ATV friendly
No matter what, we didn’t sit home today.
