Colcord Ridge to Haigler Canyon 11/2/2007
My parking spot isn’t to fancy. It really doesn’t make any difference it’s just to park this time and not picnic. It’s like a flash back to the old days “I’m riding alone”. Everyone had something to do including the wife. This area is famous for signs. It seems like the last time I was here I found a sign that said no breathing. I guess someone’s brother in law owns a sign shop.
The roads in this area were nice with almost zero traffic. Sure is nice riding on Fridays. I finally made it to the Colcord Mtn Lookout tower. Of course it was closed for the season but I was still able to climb the tower. It looks like it is about an 80 footer with a real nice stairway
I guess the brother in law with the sign shop is still doing well. I am the only one here at both of these picnic sites. I sure would like to site down at a table and eat lunch ,,, maybe use the facilities ? No ! It doesn’t say no unlicensed vehicles, it says "NO ATVs" . What’s with these people anyway ?
More signs ,,,, got to love it. No firearms,,, and deadly weapons ???? Are people carrying those flame throwers and bazookas again ? Seems like we have a state law that says if you can’t bring it in they have to have facilities to secure it for you, wonder if they do ? ,,,
(never mind)
The hatchery was nice. I didn’t see anyone so I just gave myself a self guided tour. Looked like a good place to fish. LOL
I headed to Valentine Ridge passing through some of the burned out area. Finally a place that didn’t have the signs. I had a nice lunch at a table.
I headed to Haigler Canyon and down some really nice trails. Some of the colors in the forest were amazing, lots of reds on the ground cover. I just couldn’t capture it on film properly.
Haingler Canyon, nice but not that impressive. With the zoom I could see the Creek at the bottom.
I wish I had brought the better camera. Haigler Creek is a real photo op.
Sweet ! I found me a road and a camping area that ONLY ATV’s can get to. A great place to relax for a while !

This whole area is relatively nice to ride in. All of the established area’s are ATV unfriendly with few exception. This is a good area for a day trip. Don’t plan on any great camping experiences in this area if you bring an ATV. Most likely you will get a ticket if they are off the trailers in a camping area.

During my adventure I cross paths with an un-know (to me) creature. It is a Coati ??? Yes, they do exist in Arizona. The one that I discovered did not look hand fed or friendly. I chose my gun over my camera but didn’t need it. This is what the animal looked like. (this is not my picture)
