Mount Ord to Mount Peeley (flashback) Jan. 25 2008
This is almost a flashback of the original rides I took back in 2005. Back then I just got my ATV and was pretty much on my own. I came to this area a few times to ring things out. It was almost exactly this time of year. I remember I got caught in a terrible hail storm and bad bad fog. LOL We haven’t been here at this time of year in a long time. We usually call the north-west area of the trip “the Pine Mountain area”. This trip will go just a little deeper to a trailhead of the Arizona Trail that is near Mount Peeley.
We started our trip heading up Mt. Ord. We hit the fog about ½ way up, it was like a wall of fog. ,,, Sweet !
We went from beautiful views down to punching through clouds. The North side was all snow.
Some of the most interesting views were at altitudes even with the clouds. The weather gives an entire new visual sensation. Did I mention it was cold.
The weather was clear at our location. A few hundred feet above us and a ¼ mile east, the towers were socked in. I’m not real sure if it is fog or snow? It is absolutely quiet up here. You can occasionally hear the snow and ice falling from the trees but that’s it. I have been to this exact spot many times over the last 25+ years. Every visit to this area is rewarding in some way. It looks different throughout the 4 seasons and actually has 4 season here.
We came back down and moved on to the Pine Mountain side of the ride. It’s not like climbing Mt Ord but lets just say it is a high road with views. I believe the peak on the left is Red Rock and the one in the right picture is Pine Butte. The elevation of the road is ~5000 ft , yes it was cool but not freezing.
As soon as we got around the north side it was snow, not a lot, just a nice covering.
Imagine riding in a nice forest like this, just putting along at 10 MPH on the snow.
Too many views I just can’t post all the pictures. It’s almost hard to drive with all the view distractions. I think I use to call this “Sensory Overload”. Glenn looks exhausted from pushing the shutter button.
Darn trees keep getting in the way
Sweet !
End of the trail for the ATV’s, it’s a wilderness area from here.
