This is the great escape and not just an ATV ride! I have worked 30 + days without a day off, but lets not go into that. All I wanted to do is go out and relax and this was the place to do it. Before I even started the ride I took out my RC airplane and attempted to fly it. Attempted is a hint of how it went , 3 BIG CRASHES. No pictures are provided for your entertainment ,,, maybe next time I will shoot a movie. LOL
So off we go with a tentative plan of slipping down to Stoneman Lake Road, back up to the site of the railroad track that carried lumber from Sawmill Hill for some metal detecting, and checking out Lee Butte.
Nice roads, nice forest. What does this look like ? A giant frog?
Some of the trails got just a little rough, just enough to keep the cars and light duty trucks out. Look at these clearings! Great places to camps or (ATV) picnic.
If you look though the woods at this clearing you will see that there are other attached clearings further back.
This would be a great place for a private picnic without anyone bothering you.
Here is Allen Lake. Right now it is beautiful and couldn’t be and more scenic than it is. I believe this is a seasonal lake and goes away with summer. Most likely not a good fishing lake?
This lake has a little crossing at the one end , a very nice place to experience at this time of the year.
We made out way over to the old site of the railroad tracks and did a little metal detecting. I confirmed it ! They did use nails, lots of nails, and they threw them on the ground. Note the old RR ties on the side of the road.
Here it is, I found a small patch of snow- The last snowman for spring 2008
Our last objective was to have a look at Lee Butte. Surprisingly we found a sign that pointed us to Lee Butte like it was a major destination. Many miles later the GPS is saying turn here but they have no sign at Lee Butte? We went down the road further to see if there was a different way to it, but no signs? As usual the GPS and Garmin software were correct. The road going in was very nice until,,,,, we hit the locked gate. Oh well, another days adventure.
As soon as that sun starts down the temperature drops. You can see the sun hitting the moisture in the air. We lost 10 degrees in the last ½ hour, 65 to 55
This is a great place to camp/picnic and fly RC planes, or in my case crash them. Next time I’ll take movies, I promise.
FYI- We came up on a Thursday. We seen "NO ONE" all day. It doesn’t get much better than this.
