It’s been a month since I posted a ride. The last one I posted was Jones Crossing. Two weeks ago we did go on a ride but it was more of a picnic/campout ride. I guess we just showed up to have relaxing day in the woods at Pivot Rock. I felt it would be CHEEZING to try and say that was an Adventure Ride. As I have said before I am running out of places to ride. After studying the map and considering the time of year and temperature, it was obvious we still needed to go north. Our selection was Sedona (you know the red rock country) but we don’t want to go to Sedona. We are not going to look up at the red rocks, we are going to ride on top of the red rocks and look down! I know I am not the first one to do this, but it will be the first time most of you have ever seen this view.
In an unknown place we are afraid to just go in with the trailer, we could get skunked. We chose the safest place to park, we will do the sweetest parking spot on the next trip. To get to the spot we want to go to we have to drive way around the West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon. It had some nice scenery but we just couldn’t get to that perfect spot to get a view to the canyon floor.
We had some typical open pasture type areas with some very unused roads. Maybe no one goes to this area? I have never heard of anyone going here ?
Did someone say that pine trees can grow on solid rock? This tree stands straight up but it’s roots must go horizontal. First time I have ever stood under a tree, really under a tree.
We did see lots of wildlife. Today I brought the good camera??? But it is slower getting out, removing the lens cap, etc.. I need to carry the pocket Kodak just for these occasions and the many others I missed.
Don’t get me started ,,, you know what the sign says. This was going to be a side trip to Turkey Butte Look Out Tower. Don’t need to see it anyway (Gggrrrr). It got us off the main roads and onto the trails quicker anyway.
As you can see these roads are in too far for any traffic - SWEET ! The one on the left was marked Primitive??? Maybe for a BMW S- series. ,,, LOL
Here comes Connie ! Can you hear her singing? LaLa,,,La LA LA LA la,,,,, ,La La.
Perfect temperature, perfect weather, don’t get better than this.
We made it to the other side of Oak Creek Canyon (the real canyon) . This is a view looking north about to the same spot we were at looking south. The view would be better but those darn trees keep getting in our way.
WE MADE IT ! We got to the rim above Sedona ! We took so many pictures to share with you that we have another page with mostly BIG pictures.
Now I am glad I brought the good camera and tripod ! Prepare yourself for views that few have seen from this angle ! It’s been a long day so far but,,,, this made it worth it ! SEE NEXT PAGE !
Camera used : Olympus E-500, Lens14-45 mm and 40-150 mm after this point. 150mm = effective 300 mm (or a big lens for you non-camera people) and I needed more. Conditions were hazy overcast + some clouds and late in the day.
