Stoneman Lake Road 5/01/2009
Wow, I’m sick of hearing forest, forest, forest. I want trees, deer , elk. Without any real plan we headed north. The forest service said it was open. My friend that hunts said it was open ---- we’re going ! We have no plan for anything except to go to the trees, forest, deer……. As we went north it was all open! We just kept driving and decided we hadn’t really explored other roads off Stoneman Lake Road. The wife said if it has trees it’s good enough! You can’t see it but she has a smile on her face,,, (and keeps babbling trees trees….)
I have no idea what these are. I have seen them before and all I can figure it is a survey mark and an antique rain monitoring device ? If anyone really knows the answer let me know.
We found a really great spot for a rest and snack. See how happy the wife is in the trees.
I’m sure no one is within miles of us. (Thank God for GPS)
Here is what she came for- Miles and miles of forest roads. We could be the 1st people on them this year.
We made our way to Stoneman Lake. We knew they had a few picnic tables over looking the lake. This was the perfect place for lunch. Note: The wife is still smiling, cold but smiling.
Most of the roads were rollers, push the throttle and roll along. Many of the (Not Main) roads passed my pinecone test. ( No smushed pinecones = No cars or trucks have been here)
Rattlesnake Quiet Area ? The wife kept yelling “get up you lazy snakes !” Anyway this is our opportunity to see this area. Every time we have been here before it has been closed. This is the 1st time I have seen the gate open.
This area has some very primitive roads, not a problem for an ATV. Don’t even think about driving a car in this area, you could never turn around. The forest is exceptionally thick in this area.
I think we have covered a lot of ground. We just popped out below Apache Maid Mountain.
It was getting late in the day. The weather said a cold front was coming in with rain. We could feel the temperature dropping as we loaded. It was a sweet day in the forest.

JUST DO IT !
