Clover Canyon, Willow Valley, West Clear Creek- I don’t know , every map I look at says something different. Most people seem to call this Clover Canyon,,,,, that West Clear Creek runs through Several years ago I went on an exploratory run though here just to have a quickie look/see at what was here. After studying the map I determined that I missed a bunch of access points to the canyon. I feel lucky to have found a place to ride that meets both of my criteria. 1) Haven’t really been here. 2) Up in the trees so the wife is happy.
The roads going in part of the way were great, as usual, they narrowed up and got rougher as we went farther in. The first access point was also a great place to take a break.
This is our first look down into the canyon today. This was not the greatest spot, but it shows a starting point. We will be working our way North-East (to the right). I would be nice to hike down into the canyon. Everywhere you look, caves and more caves, or do they just look like caves ?
Off to the second spot, and I sure am hungry, time for lunch before I look over the edge.
It all looks so nice until you look at the pictures. Those darn trees keep blocking my view. (You can’t see the forest for the trees) LOL
Many nice places to explore but those darn trees screw up the picture !
As we worked our way up the canyon, we finally got to a spot to look over the edge with fewer trees. I expected the canyon to be much shallower but it wasn’t. This is really a major canyon and almost no one knows about it.
Here is a good zoom down to the canyon floor. I think this would be a great canyon to hike.
The furthest point in our journey yielded more great pictures of the canyon. We also noticed this natural wall that crosses the canyon. We couldn’t get to a good vantage point this late in the day. We are still baffled that this wall crosses the canyon from one side to the other with water flowing on both sides. There must be a hole or large seem in the wall to let the water flow through.
Oh well, that will be another trip another day !
Below: Picture of a formation that sure looks like an apartment building.
Did I mention the wife was very happy with this ride. Nice forest, nice roads, just rough enough that you know you are on an ATV ride. Although this is Saturday we only seen one side by side and 2 Quads.
Get off the couch !
