The Mogollan Rim, normally just called “The Rim” is a fantastic place to visit. In the summer months the weather is 20 to 30 degrees lower than in Phoenix. Night temperatures can drop surprisingly low in any season. August brings almost a daily afternoon shower for about an hour. Here in late June, the vegetation is very green and the temperature is perfect. This is an ATV ride but a large portion of the scenery can be seen from a passenger car along forest road #300. It’s a worthwhile trip even in a car.

There are many great places to stop for a snack, lunch, or just enjoy the view.
Even with a map and a GPS the list of places to stop is just too big to try and communicate.
The sheer face of the rim wall is hard to photograph, it has to be seen first hand.
It was a good ride away from the Rim north to Barbershop Canyon. East Clear Creek is still running and will really be flowing when the monsoons hit this area hard in August.
This area has lots of places to park and just walk around.
It’s a contrast – the deep forest to looking over the Rim. I think some of this qualifies for my term “Sensory Overload”. Bring your camera !
Try HQ and full screen modes.
(Right) Watch my ATV movie as I take you on 2 rides to the RIM.
This time of the year many areas are covered in ferns.
Even if you just have a car, grab some folding chairs, pack a picnic lunch and slowly drive #300. No 4-WD is required or needed.
