Lets start out by saying that you don’t ride at Forest Lakes. Forest Lakes is Forest lakes Estate and is a housing area. Make sure to not bother the residents. Enter the forest before or after Forest Lakes but not through the center of the residential area !
Most people turn off at Woods Canyon Lake so not many make it to Forest Lakes. By entering further up the road just before Forest Lakes you can position yourself on the other side of Chevelon Canyon. Chevelon Canyon is located in the heart to Sitegreaves National Forest. We normally refer to it as Shitsgaves National Forest. As you can see our first planned road was closed off. With some quick re-navigation we soon were standing on the edge of Chevelon Canyon

This is a good size canyon there are no roads or ATV trails crossing the canyon.
This is a good size canyon. There are no roads or ATV trails crossing the canyon. If I had brought my big camera, I could have got some cool shots of some large birds playing in the updraft.
This was lucky for our 1st stop, great view and a nice cool breeze. The roads and trails in this area are fairly easy to ride. This is all the worse it got shown below.
For the very inexperienced rider there are great forest roads. These roads are not used much due to the confusion caused by the forest service. I is near impossible to decipher what roads you can go on and what roads you can’t. All I can say is if it is marked closed, it’s closed, and don’t blaze a new trail.
Below is a beautiful rock road surface. This would make a bitchin driveway at my house.
Here is a good example of poor marking. We go down this obviously used road. A few miles in I see this trail sign “TRAIL”. (OUCH) As we turn around the other side has an ATV symbol ????? Is this one way ? At the other end of the road it is well marked for ATV use but the other end has nothing
We did have some other fun roads. The one place that came out to the canyon we couldn’t see anything, The trees blocked our view but we found weird rocks.
The rock below was real heavy and looked molded.
(Right) Almost looks like animal tracks in the rock.
Deep in the forest, we came across a flock of sheep. I never saw sheep loose in the forest before. They were friendly and most likely recognized me from this site.
